Traditional Wedding Vow
I [Name] take you [Name] to be my wife/husband,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish, till death us do part,
according to God's holy law.
In the presence of God I make this vow.
Reflection
A vow is declaration and a prophecy to commit to every condition to do whatever you have committed to do.
It have been written life and death are at the tip of the tongue, whatever you declare will come to pass.
So back to our famous vow. It does declare good things, but so does bad things and even the worst. We will go through each bad word and its ramifications.
Words Worth Reflecting On
For Worse
This opens the abyss of a door to allow everything worst to come to you, it looks like a solidarity vow but it's not, it's actually a declaration to allow the worst to come and I believe you can live without the worst to come.
For Poorer
Again declaration to poverty, this is when people get married and poverty sets in, it's also looks like solidarity pledge to fight it together, but you didn't have to fight it if you didn't call it.
In Sickness
The same goes with sickness windows being opened, and as you observed many marriages have to pass through this window.
Till Death
We have been saved from death and all its agents by the Blood of Jesus. When you bring this vow into play, you are opening a door for death to creep in and separate you.
A Biblical Example: Jephthah's Vow
1. A Vow Was Spoken
Jephthah brings on very odd vow before the LORD to ask victory from God.
2. The Door Opens
He spoke and Demons utilized the words to move in his daughter to come out and be sacrificed and he have to kill his own daughter.
3. A Painful Outcome
Now it comes to question was it necessary for such a vow, now he sits up with two judgements, first to kill his daughter and second to call on God to witness such atrocity.
Reflection
This example is presented as a reflection on the seriousness of vows and spoken words before God.
God's Design For Marriage
Now what is God saying about a good vow that brings His full power into marriage?
A marriage involves three beings (Husband, Wife and Holy Spirit) coming together to do God's work under God's supervision.
The great purpose of all is to live in Christ, following God into His work in the world and heaven.
Husband
Serving God faithfully within the covenant.
Wife
Serving God faithfully within the covenant.
Holy Spirit
Leading, strengthening and guiding the marriage toward God's purpose.
A Kingdom Marriage Vow
I .................. take you .................... to be my wife / husband,
to have and to hold, from this day forward,
to grow together in faith,
to grow together in love,
to grow together in God,
and to fulfill together the purpose that God has for us in this marriage,
till the fullness of time.
I call the LORD God to be our strength and our witness.
Amen.
Closing Reflection
Many people have even wondered why people can live without marriage trouble free but many after getting marriage, they end up in chaos, what changed, the vow open something that was closed, even God taught us to pray not to get tempted, but the vow clearly invites temptations...it'd not too late you can cancel what was spoken over your marriage and take the new Godly Vow which invites even God himself to give strength to live and love one another.
