Dwell with them(women) according to knowledge 1Peter 3:7…the hidden warning...

Kingdom Marriage

When a Man Listens to His Wife against the Word of God.

Knowing your wife is important. But knowing God, hearing His Word, and remaining under His authority is greater.

This statement has been misinterpreted and stripped of its true meaning until it can no longer reach into our marriages and bless us.

1 Peter 3:7 — The foundation “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife...”

Some Bible versions and teachings have reduced it to a simple instruction for a man to study his wife—learn her likes, dislikes, emotions and way of thinking so he can know how to please her.

It sounds logical.

But I have a problem with that definition.

Knowledge is not intelligence.

And if the meaning is simply about being intelligent enough to understand women, then the most intelligent men should have the strongest marriages. Yet intelligence alone does not preserve a marriage.

So I went back to Scripture.

And I began to see something concerning.

Adam

Adam had the Word of God.

He knew the command: do not eat.

Genesis 2:16–17 “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it...”

Then Eve gave him the fruit, and he ate.

And when God confronted him, God said:

Genesis 3:17 “Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it...”

Adam's problem was not that he had a wife.

His problem was that he chose the voice of his wife over the Word of God.

Samson

Samson had something he was commanded to protect.

Delilah kept pressing him until he finally revealed the secret. He knew what he was supposed to protect, but eventually he surrendered it.

Judges 16:17 “...he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb...”

And after he surrendered the secret:

Judges 16:20 “...And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.”

His life collapsed.

Abraham

God had given Abraham a promise.

He was supposed to wait.

Sarah offered another way.

Genesis 16:2 “And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid...”

Abraham followed the shortcut, and Ishmael was born.

The promise of God did not change—but Abraham allowed another voice to alter his obedience.

Job

Job believed what he knew about God.

Then catastrophe came.

His wife offered him an easier way:

Job 2:9 “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”

Job refused.

Job 2:10 “...Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?”

He would not abandon what he knew about God simply because the person closest to him suggested it.

And God restored him.

Solomon

Solomon was extraordinarily wise.

Yet Scripture says his wives turned his heart toward other gods.

1 Kings 11:4 “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God...”

The wisest man could still fall when he stopped guarding his heart and allowed another voice to become greater than God's Word.

And the consequences reached the kingdom.

1 Kings 11:11 “...thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee...”

So What Is the Warning?

It is not that women are evil.

It is not that a man should stop loving his wife, listening to her or respecting her.

No.

A man should love his wife.

He should listen to her.

He should understand her.

He should honour her.

But there is an order in a Kingdom marriage.

The Order of a Kingdom Marriage
God
Husband
Wife
Household

There is no neutrality in that order.

If a man stops leading and starts following his wife against God, everything can go down with him.

And if a man stops listening to and obeying God, everything can go down with him too.

The man cannot lead his house
if he has stopped following God.

This is why the issue is much deeper than “knowing your wife.”

Know your wife—but know God more.

Listen to your wife—but never above God's Word.

Love your wife—but never above God.

Guard the Gate

Because the enemy does not always need to destroy a man by attacking him directly.

Sometimes he only needs to convince the man to abandon the Word of God and follow another voice.

And sometimes that voice can come from the person closest to him.

That is why a Kingdom man must guard the gate.

Kingdom Man

Love her. Lead her. Listen to her. But lead her toward God.

Because when the man loses his position before God, he does not fall alone.

The fall can reach the whole house.

Know your wife.
But know God more.
