I asked myself this question a lot, and especially this: If God already knew we were going to fail at it, why bother giving it to us in the first place?
Did God like the Law? If He did, then why did He have to come back to bail us out from it?
It All Began in Creation
It all began in creation.
God created man in this order:
A spiritual man, given a physical body with a soul, so that he could touch, move in the physical earth, and actually enjoy the wonderful creation, yet still remain spiritual by 100%—able to see, interact with his Creator, and have beautiful fellowship with Him.
What Does Exactly This Mean?
In layman's terms, Adam was Superman—almost just like the one in the movies.
Adam did not require transportation, as he could move in the spirit, by thoughts. Adam could feel the Earth's elements—fire, wind, soil— without them hurting him.
Is this even possible or written?
YES.
Jesus is called the Second Adam for a reason.
Jesus demonstrated vividly what Adam could do by what He did after He resurrected. He completely transformed to become the true nature of Adam to come.
For example:
He walked on water.
He appeared to be eating, but not to sustain the body. It was more as if He was enjoying the creation, because the body was made to be governed by the spirit, not food alone.
So Adam was a spiritual being with a body—powerful, led by the Spirit, and subjected to spiritual laws rather than Earth's physical laws.
When We Sinned, the Opposite Happened
When we sinned, the opposite happened.
Adam became a physical being with a soul and a locked spirit.
Now Adam was subjected to the physical laws of the earth, just like anything else created on the earth. And, on top of that, the earth was instructed to give him hardships.
Now that he had become subjected to the laws of the earth, death came knocking.
He was no longer eternal—immortal—but mortal.
So he lived and died.
Man Outside His Original Nature
Then, moving forward, we have a man now living outside of his original nature, facing all sorts of challenges.
The earth. The devil. All kinds of challenges.
Then God chose the Israelites for Himself, to be His people, His servants, His priests, and His sons.
But still, man was physical and God was spiritual. Man could not interact with Him in a spiritual way because he would not follow.
So God stepped down to give guidelines on how to sustain that physical body physically, without the help of the Spirit.
It was not possible for a human being, but He tried and gave laws for man to follow, at least to live longer in this physical earth.
The Law Was Temporary
Through the whole Law, the direct message was:
You can't fulfill this Law and have a relationship with Me and live longer in this earth.
That is why the Torah was temporary—as a shadow of what was to come, until God restored man into his divine nature.
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
Colossians 2:16–17And also, it was really meant for our good:
“My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.”
But the Law Missed One Thing
The Law, though, missed one thing:
The LORD pursues a relationship with man.
And in that, we find Jesus coming to resolve that.
He called us brothers, sons of God, and heirs to the Kingdom of God.
The Law was simply about survival, but Grace is about relationship.
The Law makes us human, calling us to our human nature.
Grace makes us divine, calling us to our spiritual nature.
The Law's final destination is death, even if you follow every article of it, because it was never meant for something more than surviving this world.
Grace's final destination is eternal life and a flourishing relationship with God.
Do We No Longer Need the Law?
There has been a debate that now we live by faith, and therefore we no longer need the Law.
NOT EXACTLY.
The LORD God already foresaw this time of Grace and said He would have written the Law in our hearts.
And the HOLY SPIRIT inside us is there to help us obey it—by giving us strength and a new heart to follow and obey it—as the Spirit is now back in the leadership position.
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
Hebrews 8:10Example
Previously, when you were sick, the Law instructed you to go and find some herbs to heal yourself.
But now your Spirit can heal your body.
Then What About the Ten Commandments?
Guys, look at the fruit of the Spirit.
Really, a guy who has all of those will need guidance in honoring his parents?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23So to conclude we are not physical beings anymore, we are divine beings, we do not die anymore, we live forever, we sleep if God wishes us to sleep till the day of the great day of the LORD.
We can eat anything we want, we no longer eat to survive, we can eat to sustain our physical nature, but what really powers us is the Holy Spirit moving us from glory to glory, leading us to our Father as we move close to Him, the more we become like Him.
